The Outdoor Extravaganza Build It Link Party is on today at Living Savvy!
I posted earlier today about how I want to create an outdoor lounge area in my backyard. While these plans are currently on hold, I thought it would be fun to build something for my outdoor space on a much smaller scale.
I created this monogram chalkboard with stand for all of the outdoor summer entertaining we do! And we do a lot! We have a great group of friends who love nothing more than a Saturday night get together!
Here's what you need...
Plywood (mine is approximately 14 x 22)
Chalkboard Paint
"L" Brackets
Screws
Screwdriver
White Paint
Paint Brush
Printed Monogram
Simply paint the plywood with chalkboard paint. I used Rustoleum chalkboard spray paint. Once dry, you'll need to prime the chalkboard by rubbing the entire surface with a piece of chalk and wiping it down with a damp cloth. Easy enough so far, right?
Now, here's where my amazing build it skills come into play. :) Screw two "L" brackets into rear of plywood. Check to make sure that your screws do not go through to the front of the board. The two "L" brackets will act as a stand. I want my chalkboard to be able too sit on our outdoor bar, but you could also attach a piece of jute twine so that you may hang it.

Print your monogram. I simply made mine in a Word document. Position on plywood. Using a pencil trace monogram. Press hard. The pressure of the pencil will leave an indentation in the wood.

Want to paint a dot? Use a pencil eraser as a stamp! Dip in paint and dab on a piece of scrap paper first.
Ready for the cocktail party!
Cocktails at five if anyone is interested!
Next Wednesday is my turn to host! Get your outdoor paint projects ready because as usual, I'm ready for a party!

ReplyDeleteYour monogram chalkboard turned out really cute! I've not used chalkboard paint yet, will have to try it soon since I've see so many cute projects lately.
ReplyDeleteGreat project, Jean! I want a chalkboard in my dining room for menus, and I love the idea of the monogram on it - this would make a nice gift too! Thanks for sharing.
