{Tutorial} Simple Slide Lid Gift Box

My Mother loves chocolate.  L. O. V. E. S. chocolate.  And pink.  Anything pink.  For her for Mother's Day I combined the two to create a gift that I know she'll love...a simple slide lid gift box with a fabulous homemade natural fudge inside.

What you'll need...

Cardstock (8 1/2 x 11)
Decorative Paper (Wrapping Paper or Cardstock)
Ribbon
X-acto Blade
Ruler
Tape
Scissor
Scoring Tool (the side of a credit card works fine)
Pencil

1.  Start with a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock.  Measure down 1" and score.  From this line measure down 1 1/2" and score again.  Repeat these measurements around the entire perimeter ot the paper.  (See diagram above for measurements.)  Gently fold along the scored lines.  Use finger and press for a clean fold.

2.  Hold the page lengthwise.  To cut out the corner pieces, use the scored lines as reference.  Begin by cutting down to the score line at the 1" mark with an x-acto blade.

3.  Now cut across the cardstock over the 1" and 1 1/2" score line marks lengthwise.

4.  Still holding the paper lengthwise, cut down the score line to the 1 1/2" line to create a slit.  This will allow you to fold the sides up.

5.  At the 1" score line of both short sides, fold over to create a tabbed edge.  Secure with tape.

6.  Fold short sides up at remaining score line to create box shape.

7.  At the 1" score line of  the long side, fold over to create a tabbed edge.  Make sure to fold it over the short box side to hold the sides together.  Secure with tape.

8.  Repeat on second side.

9.  Cut cardstock to 6 x 11 size with x-acto blade and straight edge.  Measure, score and fold.  Refer to diagram above for exact measurements.

10.  Fold into sliding lid shape and secure with tape.

11.  Slide box base into sliding lid.

12.  Decorate lid with decorative paper and ribbon.  I cut my decorative paper to 5" width, wrapped with ribbon and secured it together on the bottom side with tape.

Place a piece of wax paper on the bottom and fill with your favorite treat!  I used this Natural Fudge Recipe from Ms. Skinny that uses a slow cooker!  It is one of the easiest and tastiest natural recipes!

Happy Mother's Day!
