{My Home} Shopping My Own Home

Let's face it.  Home remodeling and decorating can be very expensive.  Even when you're doing most everything yourself the cost can add up.  And when you're like me you're constantly changing and rearranging.

My goal has been to use as much of what I already own as possible.  Refresh it, update it, and reuse it has been the theme. As a secondary bonus refreshing old items has also helped me to declutter.  All of those unwanted furniture and decor pieces that sat in storage or that found their way to the yard sale pile are finding happy new areas in my home to be displayed.

When I began the project of styling my bookshelf (here and here), instead of heading out to Home Goods or TJ Maxx like I would normally do, I shopped my own home first.

Some old ceramic accessories received a fresh coat of spray paint.  I wasn't feeling the sage green color against my new charcoal gray bookcase.

Now they'll fit in perfectly with my other white accessories.

Remember my shopping savings spree?  Well the hot pink lucite and coral sculpture clearance find received an update too.

Nothing against the hot pink.  It just wasn't my decorating style.

Do you shop your own home first when accessorizing?

XOXO,

  1. Hey Jeannie! I just shopped my own decor when I was feeling my bedroom was deserving of a little update. It's something that my husband will never understand but it does pay to have a huge section of my basement with lots of decor that I can shop. I'm sure it's saving us money in the long run! : ) Pretty coral!

  2. Yes! I have a whole "decor store" in my closet that's perfect for shopping. :) (I still wish I had more though!)

  3. I try to, but I could definitely be better! And I'm with you on the constant rearranging/redecorating - I can't seem to stop myself! :)

  4. I saw those bright coral pieces and passed by them - but with the white spray paint, it looks amazing! Just cleaned out my basement and found lots of great stuff down there - it was like Christmas morning. Donated most of it but saved my favorites on shelves down there so I can mix it up when I get in the mood! Newest follower - both in GFC and Linky!

  6. Great ideas! I always try to update what I have, but have a major fear of messing stuff up! Usually only try it with things I am ok with tossing. Your's turned out awesome!
