Finding the Time

This post Mommy Guilt-Let's Talk at Emily A. Clark could not have come at a better time.

I know that there are areas in the country where back-to-school has already begun.  Where I am on the east coast back-to-school is the day after Labor Day.

The last couple of weeks of the summer have been a difficult balance between entertaining my son and attempting to find time to complete the things on my to do list.  Each time I attempt to find time for projects or even me, the mommy guilt creeps in.

This precious child is my priority.  He's happy and healthy.  I couldn't ask for more.

So, why is it that I feel unorganized, unproductive, and basically undone?

I've come to the realization that I will just need to let most things go for the time left before school begins.  Before long we will be back into the regular schedule and routine of the school year and hopefully I will have the opportunity to find time for the endless list of projects that have taken a backseat.  I may even find a moment for me.

It's been a little overwhelming, but I'm content knowing that I do the best I can for my family every day.

Thanks Emily for letting all the moms out there know they're not in it alone.

Hurricane Irene...Putting Life in Perspective

The last 48 hours have proven to be probably the most scary I can remember since the attacks on 9/11 almost exactly 10 years ago.

The eye of Hurricane Irene barreled up the East coast slowly and powerfully heading in a direct line for my home.

We have spent the last two days glued to newscasts, preparing our home, contacting family and friends, and considering emergency plans.

In the event of a mandatory evacuation, what would we take with us?

It's amazing how quickly your life gets put into perspective.

My family is fortunate.  We escaped the damage that the authorities warned were a probability.

But, there are so many that were not so fortunate.

My prayers go out to the millions of families affected by the storm.

And a very special prayer and thank you to the first responders who risk their lives every day to keep us all safe.

It's hard to pick up a home decor magazine without seeing lucite furniture and accessories.

We see it so often because of it's ability to beautifully fit into almost any style of decor.

Decorating with Maps

Here is some inspiration for using maps when decorating...

Maps!

I love the idea of using the maps in decorating.  They provide color, typography, and beautiful lines.

But aside from that, I especially love that you can use maps of sentimental places!

Use a map from where you live or have lived, a favorite place, where you met your spouse, where you were married or honeymooned, or the place your children were born.

These are the small details that add a personal touch to a home.

For additional inspiration on using maps in decorating and for information on photo sources visit my Pinterest page.
