Holiday Decor...Sunburst Ornament Tutorial

As I'm still in the midst of putting the final touches on holiday decorations in my home, I thought I'd share this simple DIY Sunburst Ornament tutorial.

Here's what you'll need...

2 round craft mirror tiles (about 2" size).  Can be found here.
package of bamboo skewers
hot glue
rub n' buff (gold leaf)
ribbon

Cut skewers into three lengths.  I used an exacto knife to score each skewer at the desired length and then snapped them.  The unfinished edge will not be seen.

3 1/2" long (8 pieces)
2 1/2" medium (16 pieces)
1 1/2" short (8 pieces)

Rub n buff skewer pieces. You'll notice that the rough edge is unfinished.  No big deal, this part won't be seen.

Lay mirror upside down.  Begin with largest size 3 1/2" skewer pieces and hot glue to back of mirror starting with north, south, east, west.  Make sure that the smooth edges are facing out.

Next glue one more long skewer in between all the way around and you'll have this...

Glue medium and small skewer pieces in next.  Two medium sized skewers with one small in between.  I found it easiest to use one dab of hot glue to place all three pieces which allows you to adjust before the glue dries.

Keep going all the way around.

Cut a piece of ribbon approximately 10" long.  Turn into a "U" shape and glue to back of mirror at top.  Once finished, take the second mirror and glue it on top to conceal the edges and hot glue.

The ornament is now pretty from either side.

The photos don't do this project justice.  The mirror reflects the light so beautifully on the tree.  So sparkly!

Can't you just see a grouping of these hanging from a mantel?  Or across a window?

XOXO,
